Traditional Japanese houses can be quite inconvenient. They offer almost no soundproofing, so noise is a constant issue. There’s also a lack of private or shared common spaces. These accommodations may appeal to Western travelers who are fascinated by the romanticized idea of "Oriental" culture, but for most East Asian travelers, a comfortable hotel or hostel is a better choice. Even capsule hotels are far more practical. The room rates are often unreasonably high for what you get. It might have been better just to visit and tour the house rather than stay in it.
